Profile note
The largest fully public, fully open European foundation-model programme outside France: ALIA-40B is a 40B Apache-2.0 model trained from scratch on 9.37T tokens across 35 EU languages on MareNostrum 5, with no commercial API at all — it is infrastructure for others to build on. The HF org lists ~103 models. BSC also hosts one of the seven EuroHPC AI Factories. Total ALIA public budget figures are widely reported at €240M+ in press but were NOT confirmed on alia.gob.es, so left null.
