Profile note
The largest AI research centre in Germany by headcount and one of the largest in the world, but it is not a foundation-model lab in its own right: it contributes data curation, evaluation and methods to consortium models (OpenGPT-X/Teuken, Occiglot, Llama3-German-8B) rather than training and serving its own frontier models. Its Competence Center Generative AI focuses on local, data-protection-compliant models and LLM transparency. No models of its own and no pricing — recorded because it is a structural node in the German model ecosystem.
