Profile note
Europe's talent-retention layer rather than a model builder. As of May 2026 the network comprises 44 ELLIS Units involving ~150 institutions from Sweden to Portugal, plus a small number of full ELLIS Institutes; seven new Units (Czechia, Denmark, Franconia, Grenoble, NRW, Slovenia, Sweden) were announced 18 May 2026. 16 research programmes and a pan-European PhD/Postdoc programme. It matters to this directory because ELLIS people staff most of the consortia above, and ELLIS Institute Tübingen is one of the few EU bodies with frontier-scale pretraining ambition (covered in the DACH segment).
